I’ve never been one to have sleeping issues in fact I have the opposite problem. I have the easiest time falling asleep and sleep deeply. I LOVE sleeping you can ask Alejandro he always jokes about me getting my 10 hours of sleep. But it’s just so delicious! We all know sleep is extremely important. When you are deprived of sleep you don’t proper as efficiently, your energy drops and are irritable ( and not to mention unwanted bags under the eyes!)

I know there are dozens of people who have trouble getting a good night’s rest. We all do at times.  It can become a challenge to fall asleep and most importantly stay asleep through out the night.

I for one have never been a fan of prescription or over the counter drugs or any kind of drugs for that matter. I have always been big on holistic and natural products. I recently stumbled on an article about sleep on Twitter and discovered Banana Tea and wanted to share with you guys this incredible natural tea that has so many benefits aside from a good night’s rest.

Bananas are rich in potassium and magnesium, but what most people do not know including myself up until a month ago is that the banana peel has, even more, potassium and magnesium than the banana itself.

With banana tea  you can get the benefits of the potassium and magnesium in the banana peel. Potassium and magnesium are beneficial for the nervous system and are great for relaxing the muscles. In fact, magnesium is the most important mineral for muscle relaxation. When you are stressed the first mineral that is depleted from the mineral is Magnesium. You need magnesium to cope with stress, which will allow you to relax and fall asleep.

In addition to the banana you add a dash of Cinnamon to the tea ( which is delicous might I add) Cinnamon  is one of the best ways to balance blood sugar levels. When blood sugar levels are balanced, your hormones can function in a way that allows for better sleep.

Alejandro and I have been having the banana tea now for over a month and we both sleep deeply and feel very rested when we wake up. The tea is delicious and this is coming from someone who DESPISES bananas!

INGREDIENTS: 

1 organic banana ( with peel)

1 small pot of water

A dash of cinnamon

DIRECTIONS:

Cut off both ends of the banana top & bottom

Put the banana into a pot of bowling water

Boil for 8- 10 minutes. Sprinkle cinnamon into the water ( if desired)

Drink 1 hour before bedtime
